Extreme Temperature Identification
Introduction
The CERAMICODE™ high temperature tag is a ceramic chip bearing a fired ceramic barcode. The basic marking technology is taught in our Patent US 6518542 . After laser marking , the chip and indicia are fired . Sequential Marking and firing can be done in our plant. Alternatively laser marking on precoated chips can be done at the customer's site. Such site marking will survive high temperatures but requires firing /glazing temperatures ( approximately 1200 deg F) to maximize the marking's abrasion resistance.
The use of a (white) ceramic chip base means that there will be no contrast degration (eg. oxidation) after long term immersion at high temperature. The indicia is a glaze containing a high temperature black frit. Laser marking is done as a negative image.
